Products for the curly girl method
Here’s the truth- the right products can make or break your curly hair wash day. You can have the most beautiful curl pattern but if you’re using the wrong products your curls can come out limp and lifeless. What happened? Try googling that and see how many different answers you get! The amount of products on the market is downright daunting! The same can be said for the number of different solutions you’ll find on youtube or google. So what is a curly haired girl to do? The solution is simple. Understanding the ingredients to avoid and seek out for your curl pattern and the proper way to apply products is key. Your product’s ingredients, not the name brand, are what is going to bring your curls to life! Here are some simple rules to follow along how to apply your products for amazing wash day hair EVERY TIME!
Curly Girl Rule 1
Avoid products with heavy oils in them. Unless you have a kinky or curly type 4 curl pattern your hair does not need heavy oil. It may tame your frizz but it’s only instant gratification. In the long run your curls will be flat, lifeless and have more product build up over time. Heavy oils include coconut oil, shea butter, argan oil, jojoba oil or avocado oil. Instead look for light oils that won’t weigh your curly hair down like grapeseed oil, aloe vera or any other light essential oils.
Curly Girl Rule 2
Less is more! When you are applying your products to curly hair, less is more. I recommend sectioning out wet hair into 3 inch wide sections and applying a pea size amount of your product to each section. Repeat this process across your head. This will ensure that you don’t use too much product but also that all of your hair gets equal saturation.
Those are the two biggest rules to follow! Now- which products should you use? Choose a frizz-fighting volumizing foam like this one from Diva Curl or this one from LOMA. This will produce your hair from frizz with no added weight! Second, choose a curl cream or gel. There are tons or great options out there. I love LOMA’s molding cream and Uncle Funky’s … After you apply our product- air dry, plop, diffuse or any combination of the three for your perfect wash day dry and you’re good to go! It’s almost too good to be true but it will absolutely give you amazing results every time! It can be exhausting being a curly girl right now with all the information and products that are out there.
